Homework

1. In what way has The Fat Man gained control of the Potters and the whole of Loomis?

Herbert Muskie has got in a postiton of power over the Potters and the whole of Loomis becuse he has money. He as the means to employee them all and to pay them good wages and for this he has them eating out of his hands. He has also gained control because of the way he treats the people around him. He know's what he's doing to these people and he obviously see's the effect he has on them. And he obvioulsy can see that by acting this way he can get power and control.

2. What is the average behaviour of Herbert Muskie?

He is a very controlling and revenge driven person. He doesn't seem to care for the people around him and the effect he has on them all. He knows that because he has money he holds all the control.

3. What are Herbert Muskie's general opinions?

Herbert only believes in his opinions. To him no other opinions matter. What he thinks is of the ut most importance so for him when he does something terrible to someone he doesn't see the bad side of it at all. He only see's the things he wants to see and he has the power within him to make people see only what he want them to see.

my thoughts on green hair

i thought that it was nice for colin to stand up for verna.
and i cant blame her for not going back to the school at the end of the book with that as a first day!

my thoughts

My thoughts on Verna's first day at school

I think that Verna Muskie's first day at school was interesting because you got see what school was like back then and how they disciplined children. I also liked the fact that pretty much none of the kids wore shoes, and if you did you were a bit odd.

Also, I think Colin's behaviour towards Verna Muskie was a bit odd and he shouldn't of worried about what other people think of him and Verna. Because they have developed a relationship because of tfm and they both dislike him.

Chapter 5 - Green Hair

This chapter stood out to me. I think this is because we haven't heard much about Colin at his school - (it has mostly been about his encounters with the fat man). In chapter 5 we see Colin suddenly change his mind over Verna, and start to like her.
Colin shoudn't have felt embarrassed about walking to school with Verna but it was good that he tried to stand up for her.

Panda Rita
Chapter six - Arm Wrestling

I reckon that Verna should have rejected Colin because he doesn't like her hair, and if Verna was me, I would only want a guy who liked you for who you are! The fat man is way over his head. he needs to stop being mean to Laurie and his sisters and his dad!!!!
Green Hair!
I think that Colin should not of tattled and just let it be because then Austin Rice would not of beaten him up. I think that those girls need some serious talking to from the fat man!

Chapter 5 - Green Hair

I think that that it was good for Verna to stand up for herself but maybe she could have done it in a different way, one that wouldn't get her in so much trouble. I think Collin was very brave and kind toward Verna by standing up for her even though he knew it would mean trouble for him. I think the reason Collin is kind to Verna is because he feels sorry for her as she has to live with the fat man.

Arm wrestling

Arm wrestling is the chapter after green hair and it think that it goes more into how cruel Herbert Muskie (The Fat Man) is and i also think it shows how impaitent he is. becuase from my point of view he is becoming more hateful to the ones around him or he is just becoming less aware of what he is doing, there fore those people are beginnig to see the real Herbert.

Gone

We should read Gone by Michael Grant

From Keegan and Angus

green hair

this chapter SHOW us about Mr muskies step daughters point of veiw and anwsers many unanserd Questions like why her mum is with hurbrt muskie and why doesnt she leave him. this chapter also shows us her personality

Chapter 5:Green Hair

I like this chapter because it brings you back to Colin's normal life and his own personal fears (other than the fat man). And it develops his relationship with Verna. Also it shows you how school was like in New Zealand in 1933 and how teachers disciplined children

NARWHAL
The chapter "Green Hair" was a good one. It showed you what school was like in 1933 and how harsh it was back then. I think another good title for the chapter would be "The Pimp" or "Top of the Class" because Colin tells (or rats) on the people who bully Verna Muskie which makes him a "pimp", and Verna gets top of the class in a test.

[The Fat Man]

Hi its me again and I am going to talk about the Fat Man, I already said that the Fat Man is a interesting book but it is not only about the book that we are talking about we are talking about the author the person who wrote the book, I mean it is a good book but the person who wrote the book is also intellegent because he was the one who made the book in the first place right..... So we are talking about Maurice Gee an original author, it shows that he has wrote alot of books and one of them is the one we are still reading.. He is a very good author and it shows in the book differnt kind of things discribing how the story is going to be like suspense and its very intersting to read on not like other books which are just plain boring and doesnt make any points that makes the story cool, but in this book it does and alot.....
But yeah thats my point of veiw of the book, [The fat Man]

my thoughts

well i havent even read it yet so no comment. lol
What i think about the "FAT MAN" is that it is really interesting even though i hate reading but it is allguds.
the book is a pretty cool book if you acually read the good parts!!:L:P:O:)

The Fat Man - Maurice Gee

This story line has a chilling suspense. Maurice Gee has written this novel in a way where we know things that certain characters don’t but we are still left with questions. I wouldn’t call this book a page turner because I don’t find myself wanting to read more but I do find the storyline interesting. Maurice Gee had described the fat man very well and I think he is a creepy character!

The FAT MAN

The Fat Man by Maurice Gee

The fat man is not my fav book ever and it is pretty boring I think we need a different book for English

IT IS BORING IT IS BORING IT IS BORING IT IS BORING

I do not overly like this book but it is interesting enough to keep me reading. I like the language and the ideas used in the story line. It is a very different book which I like about it. Parts of this story are thrilling, chilling and hold me in suspense.

The Fat Man

General comment;

It’s a dark book that contains lots of suspense and keeps you interested because of the way that the story is written. Its not the sort of book I usually read but it is definitely well written so I am glad that I am reading it.

What the novel has made me think about;

It has made me realise that bullying is not always just kids it can be adults as well. It has also made me think about the effects it can have on some people. Also about what life was like yonks ago in New Zealand.

The Fat Man

1:

The fat man:

General comment:

The fat man is quite a good book. But not really the type of book that I like and I don’t think I would read it in my own time. But it is well written, has a good story line from what I can tell and is very interesting.

What has the novel made you think about?

This has made me think about the effects of bullying. That it hurts people more than you may first think. Also about what life was like yonks ago. When towns were “dry” and when we used to use pounds pennies and pence.

My Thoughts

General Comment:

I think that The Fat Man is a good book but I would not have read in my own time. I would read a different book. But it is interesting because it is set in 1933.

What the novel has made me think about:

The Fat Man has made me think about what life was like yonks ago. It also shows you about what it is like to live in a dry town or a town that is poor and not doing very well.

A scene I enjoy:

I like the scene where Colin Potter first meets Herbert Muskie (the fat man), and is forced to eat the chocolate that belongs to Herbert Muskie.

The Fat Man Novel

This book is a book with a lot of suspense it gives you clues about what’s going to happen at the end, but you don’t know how it’s going to get to that point. This novel makes you think about what’s going to happen next is the fat man, Hubert Muskie, going to kidnap Colin Potter again???........

The Fat Man

Maurice Gee for English

  1. Make a general comment about the novel (The Fat Man)?

I think this novel is a thoroughly well written book. It intrigues you with the description of 1930’s New Zealand and it is written in such a way that anything can happen at each turn of the page.

  1. What has the novel made you think about?

It made me think of stereotypes of different people

  1. Find a scene

character that interest you.

quotation

The scene that interests me is when they are looking for the valuables in Mrs Muskie’s house. This interest me because it is thoroughly enjoyable to read and how the fat man (Herbert Muskie) is challenging Colin

The Fat Man!!

Comment on the book:

It is an interesting and intriguing book because of the suspense and

Tenseness of the situations. The tense situations create a “cliff hanger” which is a ending of a

Chapter that has ended in a tense situation, so it draws you deeper into the story.’

The fat man is a fantastically average book written by Maurice Gee. Its about a young boy living in a small town that has many secrets kept hidden. It also stares a man know to the young boy as the ‘fat man’. But later we find out that he is the long lost son of the ‘scary old lady’ Mrs Muskie. The ‘fat man’ forces they young boy (Colin) to steal things and to break in to peoples homes. Then one night the ‘fat man’ comes to dinner and Colin finds out his real name and his terrible past….

xoxo

The Fat Man,
The Fat Man is a novel that is really cool and i like it becuae it is very suspense and when you read the book it makes you want to carry on reading... It is very interesting and gets the readers attention... It is very catchy and [...I LOVE IT...]
